Weather & Cancellation Policy

Florida weather does what it likes. Here is exactly what happens to your booking, your money and your day when it does — written plainly, so there are no surprises on the beach.

The short version

If you read nothing else

15 mphWind at or above this and cabanas stay down
1:00 PMWeather cancellations before this: full refund
48 hrsNotice for a standard cancellation refund
1 hrThe most we may shift your start time

Light rain is not a cancellation. Storms here usually blow through in twenty minutes. We will still set up, and most guests are back on the sand before they have finished their coffee.

Weather policy

What happens when the forecast turns

We have not worked out how to control the weather yet. Until then, we make the best call we can with the information we have — as early as we can, so you can plan around it.

Light rain
We still set up. Storms here tend to pass through quickly and it is rare for it to rain all day. Your cabana keeps you dry while it does.
Storms, lightning or high wind
If thunderstorms, lightning or winds of 15 mph or more are forecast, your rental may be delayed, taken down early, or cancelled. We contact you as soon as we know.
Your start time can move
We reserve the right to move your start time up to one hour either way, because we cannot safely set up in active rain or lightning. We will always tell you as early as we can.
Cancelled before 1:00 PM
A weather cancellation made before 1:00 PM receives a full refund, or a credit for another day — your choice.
Cancelled after 1:00 PM
A weather cancellation after 1:00 PM receives a 50% refund, not including the service charge. By that point the crew, the truck and the setup have already gone out.
Flex Pass days
A washed-out Flex Pass day is put back on your pass rather than lost, as long as it is used inside your 30-day window. See how the Flex Pass works.

We ask two things of you. Answer quickly if we call about weather, and be a little flexible on timing. Both let us move your day around a storm rather than cancelling it.

Cancellation policy

Changing your plans

This covers cancellations for any reason other than weather. Weather cancellations follow the policy above, which is more generous.

16 hours or more notice
Full refund, less the service charge. Call or text 239-823-1893 — the sooner you tell us, the better the chance we can fill the slot.
Less than 16 hours notice
A $125 cancellation fee applies. By then your gear is allocated and the crew’s route is planned around you.
Moving your date
Often easier than cancelling. Ask us — if we have the date open we will simply move you, and there is nothing to refund.
When you pay
In full at the time of booking. Reserving your setup holds your date, your beach and your gear, so we settle up front and you arrive with nothing left to handle.

Wind & safety

Why 15 mph is the line

A beach cabana is a sail. At 15 mph and above, a raised canopy stops being shade and starts being a kite — one that can injure someone or destroy several hundred dollars of equipment in a gust.

So if winds are forecast at 15 mph, we keep the cabanas and umbrellas lowered. If they settle down during the day, raise them and enjoy the shade. If the wind is high enough that we cannot set up safely at all, we will tell you before we drive out.

  • Lower everything before you leave — this is the big one, and it takes five seconds
  • Lower them if a storm rolls in — wind picks up sharply ahead of one
  • Raise them again when it settles — you do not need to ask us first
  • Text us if anything looks wrong — at Bonita we are a short walk away

Lightning

If your safety is at risk, leave immediately

Do not wait for us, and do not worry about the equipment. If you see lightning or hear thunder, leave the beach and seek proper shelter — a building or a hard-topped vehicle. A cabana is not shelter. We will deal with the gear, and we will sort your booking out afterwards.

The same things that make Southwest Florida a great place to be outdoors — the warmth, the humidity, the sea breeze — are what make it one of the most lightning-prone places in the country. Storms build fast here, often from a clear morning.

Lightning can strike well ahead of the rain. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck. Get inside, wait it out, and come back when it has passed — usually it does, quickly, and you get your afternoon back.

Good to know

Policy questions

What counts as a weather cancellation?

Thunderstorms, lightning, or winds forecast at 15 mph or more — conditions where we cannot set up or keep your cabana standing safely. Light rain does not count; we still set up for that.

Do I get my money back if you cancel for weather?

If we cancel before 1:00 PM, yes — a full refund or a credit for another day, whichever you prefer. After 1:00 PM it is a 50% refund, not including the service charge, because the crew and equipment have already gone out.

What if I need to cancel for a reason other than weather?

With 16 hours notice or more you get a full refund, less the service charge. Under 16 hours there is a $125 cancellation fee. Moving your date is often easier than cancelling — just ask.

Can I cancel because the forecast looks bad?

Talk to us first. Forecasts here are frequently wrong, and a morning that looks written off often clears by eleven. If you cancel yourself more than 16 hours out the standard policy applies; if we make the weather call, the weather policy applies and it is more generous.

What happens to a Flex Pass day that gets rained out?

It goes back on your pass rather than being lost, as long as you use it inside your 30-day window.

Why can you move my start time?

Because we cannot safely set up in active rain or lightning. We may shift your start up to an hour either way to work around a passing storm — which is almost always better than losing the day.

Questions about your date?

Call or text us. If the weather is doing something strange we would rather talk it through with you than have you guessing from a forecast app.
