Sanibel has several good beaches, but these two come up most often when people are deciding where to set up. Here is how they actually compare.

Bowman’s Beach

• Parking: $5 per hour
• Accessibility: 7 handicap spaces — more than any other Sanibel access
• Facilities: restrooms, outdoor showers, and changing rooms, which are rare on the island
• The walk: about ten minutes from the lot — a marked trail through wooded terrain, a footbridge, then over the dunes

That walk is the whole story. It acts as a natural crowd filter, and what is on the other side is miles of secluded white sand with real room to spread out. Gulfside City Beach Park

• Facilities: restrooms and outdoor showers on site
• The walk: short and straightforward from car to sand

Gulfside is the better call when convenience beats seclusion, or when a shorter walk makes a real difference for someone in your group.

So which one?

Choose Bowman’s if you want more space and a quieter stretch, do not mind the ten-minute walk in, and want the most handicap parking on the island. The changing rooms are a genuine bonus if you are going straight on somewhere afterwards.

Choose Gulfside if you want the shortest possible walk from parking to water, or if the group includes anyone for whom a dune trail is not a good idea.
